Sisterhood (WRJ) strives to enrich the lives of the women of Congregation Beth Israel. We strengthen our congregation and community through educational, social, and religious programs as well as community service and social action.  Our sisterhood has a vibrant 100 year plus history as an energetic organization consisting of women from all generations committed to supporting our congregational programs. We are a member of the Women of Reform Judaism, an international organization representing over 65,000 Jewish women in 500 women’s groups in North America and around the world.

Sisterhood hosts many events throughout the year, with opportunities to have fellowship with the women of CBI, learn and study Torah, and celebrate and honor women in our congregation and in the Jewish community. We also have events to just unwind and enjoy ourselves. In addition to the many programs and activities for the women of CBI, Sisterhood raises funds for the synagogue through our Judaica Shop, L’dor V’dor. Proceeds raised through the shop are gifted to our congregational students to attend Greene Family Camp and the post-confirmation NFTY Israel trip.

For additional information about joining Sisterhood, or our schedule of programs, activities, and events, explore our webpage or contact Sisterhood President, Gloria Litt, gloria.litt@gmail.com, or call (512) 689-5056.

Sisterhood at CBI

2011 Or Ami Silver Award Recipient

Sisterhood will be honored at the Women of Reform Judaism 48th Assembly, December 14 - 18, 2011, with the presentation of the Silver Or Ami "Light of My People" award.

Sisterhood is being honored for its work in creating birthing kits which are to be sent to under served and developing nations. Each kit has the potential to save two lives, a mother and her newborn baby. With infant mortality and maternal mortality at a teriffying high level in most underdeveloped nations, these kits are a life saver by preventing tetanus infection, child bed fever, and drastically improving mortality outcomes of mothers and newborns.

Mazal Tov to Ellen Blair, Sisterhood Social Action chair, Shari Nichols, Sisterhood VP of Programming, and the volunteers of Sisterhood and CBI who worked together to make such an impact in a beautiful way!
