Who is Sisterhood?

CBI Sisterhood is a vibrant group of women of all ages who come together to better ourselves, our community, and our synagogue. We laugh and learn, pray and serve, and have fun together. We are sisters. CBI Sisterhood strives to enrich the lives of the women of Congregation Beth Israel. We strengthen our congregation and community through educational, social, and religious programs as well as community service and social action. We develop friendships for life in Sisterhood! CBI Sisterhood has a more than 80 year history as an energetic organization consisting of women from all generations interested in supporting our congregational programs. We are a member of the Women of Reform Judaism, a group representing over 65,000 women in 500 women’s groups in North America and around the world.

CBI Sisterhood hosts many events throughout the year, with opportunities to have fellowship with the women of CBI, learn and study Torah, and celebrate and honor women in our congregation and in the Jewish community. We also have events to just unwind and enjoy ourselves. In addition to the many programs and activities for the women of CBI, Sisterhood also raises funds for the synagogue through our Judaica Shop, L’dor V’dor. Proceeds raised through the shop have sent dozens of students to camp and Israel in years past.

Sisterhood at CBI

CBI's Sisterhood has been selected to receive a Special Appreciation Or Ami (Light of My People) Award by its national organization, the Women of Reform Judaism. The award will be presented at the Women of Reform Judaism's 47th Assembly to be held in conjunction with the Union for Reform Judaism's Biennial Convention in Toronto from November 4th-8th.

CBI's Sisterhood is being acknowledged for a combination of three environmental projects during the assembly period of 2007-2009:

  • Sisterhood Goes Green
(or Save the Landfills, Feed a Chicken)
  • Sisterhood Goes Camping/Women's Retreat
  • Beth Israel's Garden

Details regarding these programs will be published nationally so they can serve as models for other Sisterhood chapters.
