Educational programming at our Congregation offers opportunities for congregants to engage in a journey of learning and spiritual growth. Members of all ages are challenged to think, question and contribute creatively to our common journey.
Congregation Beth Israel treasures learning as an essential part of Jewish life. We offer a multi-faceted Jewish educational program, serving our entire congregational family as well as welcoming all other interested Jewish Austinites. During any given weekend, our congregation will see children encountering a Torah scroll, a sukkah, or a shofar for their very first time or a Torah class filled with regulars who've been wrestling with text for decades of Saturdays.
Our congregation is thrilled to offer a variety of classes, seminars, lectures, and workshops on a variety of topics. Some students are looking for fun, and others are seeking more serious settings in which to learn. We aim to provide opportunities for people to find the right experiences for them. We have designed a program that will nurture learners at every level. The goal of all of our education programs is to produce devoted Jews, who are committed to life-long learning—searching and questioning, studying Torah, participating in the Jewish community, striving to master Hebrew language, devoted to the observance of the Jewish calendar as well as the Jewish life cycle. We take seriously accountability to education that is itself Jewish in nature — authentic, dynamic, challenging, respectful, memorable, delicious, meaningful, personal, relevant, and fun.
